CMP – Client Money Protection – How important is it?

Baroness Hayter is pushing the Government as to whether it will make CMP insurance mandatory for all lettings agents.

Hayter, who led a State-backed review into the prospects of such a scheme at the end of last year, issued a written parliamentary question asking about government action.

Her question, suggesting that ministers are dragging their heels, was answered this week by Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government.

He said: “The Government encourages letting and management agents to join Client Money Protection schemes and encourages landlords and tenants to choose agents with Client Money Protection via the SafeAgent kitemark.”

He also cited Baroness Hayter’s own work, adding that the report is still being reviewed by ministers and would be responded to “in due course”.

    I was very impressed with the friendly yet highly professional service received from all members of the Stuarts team from the moment I first arranged to view the property until I collected the keys not long afterwards.     Great company, after a nightmare with a previous letting agents they are a breath of fresh air. Great at keeping in touch through the entire process and have even sorted some repairs since we moved in. They communicate well with the landlord and everything went smoothly and quickly with the move. Very happy customer!

    Couldn’t ask for a better service! Moving in process was quick and easy, all the staff are lovely and there have been no problems getting in contact with the office by phone. Will definitely recommend to family/friends
